A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled

"Revised judicature act of 1961,"

by amending section 302 (MCL 600.302), as amended by 1993 PA 190,

and by adding section 302a.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

1 Sec. 302. For the election of judges, the THE state is

2 divided into 4 judicial districts FOR THE ELECTION OF JUDGES.

3 Each district is entitled to elect 7 judges. The districts are

4 constituted and numbered as follows:

5 (A) District 1. consists of the counties of Wayne, Monroe,

6 and Lenawee.

7 (B) District 2. consists of the counties of Genesee,

8 Shiawassee, Oakland, and Macomb.

9 (C) District 3. consists of the counties of Berrien, Cass,

10 St. Joseph, Branch, Hillsdale, Washtenaw, Livingston, Jackson,

1 Calhoun, Kalamazoo, Van Buren, Allegan, Barry, Kent, Ottawa, and

2 Muskegon.

3 (D) District 4. consists of the counties of Eaton, Ingham,

4 Ionia, Montcalm, Clinton, Gratiot, Saginaw, Tuscola, Lapeer,

5 St. Clair, Sanilac, Huron, Bay, Midland, Isabella, Mecosta,

6 Newaygo, Oceana, Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Gladwin, Arenac,

7 Iosco, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Missaukee, Wexford, Manistee, Benzie,

8 Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Kalkaska, Crawford, Oscoda, Alcona,

9 Alpena, Montmorency, Otsego, Antrim, Emmet, Charlevoix,

10 Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Mackinac, Chippewa, Luce, Schoolcraft,

11 Alger, Delta, Menominee, Dickinson, Marquette, Iron, Baraga,

12 Houghton, Keweenaw, Gogebic, and Ontonagon.

13 SEC. 302A. EACH JUDICIAL DISTRICT DESCRIBED IN SECTION 302

14 SHALL BE DRAWN ON COUNTY LINES. THE SECRETARY OF STATE SHALL

15 PREPARE A MAP OF EACH DISTRICT CONSTITUTED UNDER SECTION 302 THAT

16 SHOWS THE COUNTIES THAT COMPRISE THAT DISTRICT AND CONVEY THE MAP

17 OF EACH DISTRICT TO THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR.
