A bill to amend 1919 PA 149, entitled

"An act to accept the requirements and benefits of an act of the

sixty-fourth congress of the United States, approved February 23,

1917, known as the Smith-Hughes act, or Public Act No. 347,

relating to appropriations to be made by the federal government

to the several states for the support and control of instruction

in agriculture, the trades, industries, and home economics, and

for the preparation of teachers of vocational subjects; to desig-

nate a state board of control for vocational education; to pro-

vide for the proper custody and administration of funds received

by the state from such appropriations; and to provide for appro-

priations by the state and by local school authorities to meet

the conditions of said act of congress,"

by amending sections 7 and 8 (MCL 395.7 and 395.8).

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

1 Sec. 7. The state board of control for vocational education

2 shall provide for the proper inspection of the work in the

3 schools and institutions which operate under the provisions of

4 this act. And upon the approval of the work done and the receipt

5 of satisfactory reports from each school or institution, the

1 said state superintendent of public instruction shall certify

2 to the auditor general STATE TREASURER the amount of such THE

3 state and federal moneys MONEY due to each board of education,

4 or board of control of any school maintaining a vocational school

5 or department, and to the board of control of each institution

6 engaged in the training of teachers of vocational subjects

7 according to the provisions of this act. The auditor general

8 STATE TREASURER shall, upon such THE certificate of the super-

9 intendent of public instruction, draw his OR HER warrant upon

10 the state treasurer for the amount of said moneys MONEY due to

11 each school district or institution and payable to the treasurer

12 of such THE board of education or of the board of control of

13 such THE institution, and the said THOSE amounts shall be

14 forwarded to said THE treasurers.

15 Sec. 8. It shall be the duty of the THE state board of

16 control for vocational education to SHALL estimate the amount

17 of money which should be appropriated by the state to meet fed-

18 eral allotments during each succeeding biennial period, and when

19 the state board of control shall have estimated the amount of

20 money necessary to meet the federal appropriations, they shall

21 report said estimate to the auditor general STATE TREASURER,

22 who shall include the said THAT amount of money in the state

23 tax levy for each year as reported to the state legislature.
