A bill to amend 1917 PA 99, entitled
"An act to provide for the construction, maintenance and improve-
ment of federal aided roads; to authorize townships, good roads
districts and counties to raise money by taxation and by loan for
the purpose of contributing thereto; to validate and legalize
proceedings heretofore taken to raise money for the purpose con-
templated by this act; and to provide an appropriation for paying
the state's portion of the expense incurred hereunder,"
by amending section 1 (MCL 249.1).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 1. The legislature of the state of Michigan hereby
2 assents to the provisions of the act of congress, approved July
3 11, 1916, (39 statute
laws 355,) 39 STAT. 355,
entitled "An act
4 to provide that the United States shall aid the states in the
5 construction of rural post roads, and for other purposes," and
6 the good faith of the state is hereby pledged under the
7 provisions of this act to make available from time to time
8 sufficient funds to pay the state's portion of the cost of

1 constructing and maintaining federal aided roads. The state
2 highway
TRANSPORTATION department of Michigan
through the
3 DIRECTOR OF THE state
highway commissioner is
hereby authorized
4 to
TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT MAY make surveys,
prepare plans and
5 specifications, and take charge of the building and maintaining
6 of federal aided roads in accordance with the provisions of the
7 aforesaid
act of congress and the rules and
regulations of the
8 secretary of agriculture made
thereunder UNDER
THAT ACT and
9 such
amendments thereto TO THAT ACT as may from
time to time
10 be made. The state
highway commissioner is
further authorized
11 to
DIRECTOR OF THE STATE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT
MAY enter
12 into all contracts and agreements with the United States govern-
13 ment relating to the construction and maintenance of rural post
14 roads under the provisions of the
said act of
congress, to
15 submit such

16 nance as may be required by the secretary of agriculture, and do
17 all other things necessary fully to carry out the cooperation
18 contemplated and provided for by

19 treasurer is hereby

21 this act, and shall pay out the same under the orders of the
22 auditor general which
