A bill to amend 1863 PA 140, entitled

"An act to provide for the selection, care and disposition of the

lands donated to the state of Michigan, by act of congress,

approved July second, 1862, for the endowment of colleges for the

benefit of agriculture and the mechanic arts,"

by amending sections 8 and 10 (MCL 322.178 and 322.180).

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

1 Sec. 8. The money received from the sale of said THE

2 lands DESCRIBED IN THIS ACT shall be paid into the state trea-

3 sury, and shall be placed in the general fund, but the amount

4 thereof shall be placed to the credit of the agricultural col-

5 lege fund, upon the books of the auditor general, and the

6 annual interest thereon ON THOSE FUNDS computed at 7 percent

7 7%, shall be regularly applied under the direction of the state

8 board of agriculture to the support and maintenance of the

9 state agricultural college MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY, where the

1 leading object shall be, without excluding other scientific and

2 classical studies, and including military tactics, to teach

3 such THE branches of learning as are related to agriculture and

4 mechanic arts, in order to promote the liberal and practical edu-

5 cation of industrial classes in the several pursuits and profes-

6 sions of life.

7 Sec. 10. The said state board DEPARTMENT of agriculture

8 shall certify from time to time to the auditor general STATE

9 TREASURER the amounts required for the services and expenses of

10 examining agents and for such THE other expenses as may be nec-

11 essary for the proper care and disposition of said THE lands

12 DESCRIBED IN THIS ACT and the auditor general shall draw his

13 warrant upon the state treasurer for the amounts thus certified,

14 and the state treasurer shall pay the same THOSE AMOUNTS out

15 of the general fund. All contracts and certificates of said

16 THE board shall be signed by the chairman and countersigned by

17 the secretary of the state board DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT of

18 agriculture.
