A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, by amending section 12 of article IV, to pro- vide that the state officers compensation commission's determina- tion of certain salaries and expense allowances become effective only upon approval by the legislature. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, to provide that the state officers compensa- tion commission's determination of certain salaries and expense allowances become effective only upon approval by the legisla- ture, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the people of the state: 02148'01 JLB 2 1 ARTICLE IV 2 Sec. 12. The state officers compensation commission is cre- 3 ated which shall determine the salaries and expense allowances of 4 the members of the legislature, the governor, the lieutenant gov- 5 ernor, and the justices of the supreme court. The commission 6 shall consist of 7 members appointed by the governor. The com- 7 mission shall determine the salaries and expense allowances of 8 the members of the legislature, the governor, the lieutenant gov- 9 ernor, and the justices of the supreme court which determinations 10 shall be the salaries and expense allowances unless ONLY IF the 11 legislature by concurrent resolution adopted by 2/3 A MAJORITY 12 of the members elected to and serving in each house of the legis- 13 lature reject APPROVE them. The commission shall meet each 2 14 years for no more than 15 session days. The legislature shall 15 implement this section by law. 16 Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be sub- 17 mitted to the people of the state at the next general election in 18 the manner provided by law. 02148'01 Final page.
