SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION G

February 6, 2001, Introduced by Senators BENNETT, MC MANUS, MC COTTER,

DUNASKISS, BULLARD and STEIL and referred to the Committee on Hunting,

Fishing and Forestry.

A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state con-

stitution of 1963, by adding section 25 to article I, to recog-

nize a right to hunt and take game and fish.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the

state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state con-

stitution of 1963, to recognize a right to hunt and take game and

fish, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the people of the

state:

1 ARTICLE I

2 SEC. 25. SUBJECT TO CONDITIONS ESTABLISHED BY LAW AND BASED

3 ON PRINCIPLES OF SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, THE

4 PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO HARVEST, HUNT, FISH, AND GATHER FROM THE

5 RENEWABLE NATURAL RESOURCES OF THE STATE. THESE RESOURCES

6 INCLUDE GAME BIRDS, GAME ANIMALS, FUR-BEARING ANIMALS, FISH

1 STOCKS, AND EDIBLE PLANTS THAT ARE THE PROPERTY OF THE STATE AND

2 ARE HELD IN THE PUBLIC TRUST.

3 Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be sub-

4 mitted to the people of the state at the next general election in

5 the manner provided by law.
