A SUMMARY OF SENATE BILL 1329 AS PASSED BY THE SENATE 11-4-04

The bill would amend Part 821 (Snowmobiles) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to permit the operation of a snowmobile on the right-of-way of a limited access highway if the right-of-way is a snowmobile trail designated by the Department of Natural Resources, and if approved by the DNR and the state Department of Transportation.  A snowmobile could only be operated on the right-of-way as specified in the DNR's comprehensive plan for a statewide recreational and snowmobile trail system, and within the width of the designated trail.

Under current law, a snowmobile may be operated in the right-of-way of a public highway that is not a limited access highway.
