House Bill 4067

Sponsor: Rep. Doug Spade

Committee: Commerce

Complete to 3-11-03

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4067 AS INTRODUCED 1-28-03

The bill would create a new act to specifically permit an employee to display the American flag in his or her designated work area so long as the display does not pose a safety hazard.

The term "safety hazard" would be defined to refer to an instance in which, in the judgment of the employer, there is a violation or a condition that may cause a violation of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act.

The term "employer" would refer to an individual, sole proprietorship, partnership, association, or corporation, public or private; the state or an agency of the state; a city, county, village, township, school district, or intermediate school district; an institution of higher education; or an individual acting directly or indirectly in the interest of the employer who employs one or more individuals.
