A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4186 AS INTRODUCED 2-11-03

House Bill 4186 would amend the Revised School Code to require that the board of a school district, intermediate school district, or a public school academy ensure all of the following with respect to all secondary-level science or technology classes:

-that safety policies have been adopted for dealing with the materials and processes commonly used in instructional activities;

-that each classroom used has been equipped with adequate safety supplies and equipment based on the instructional activities; and,

-that teachers and other instructional staff had been provided with training on the safety policies, supplies, and equipment.

The bill specifies that these requirements would be in addition to the requirements of section 1288 of the code, which concerns the use of eye protective devices in vocational or industrial arts shops or chemical laboratories.
