A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4267 AS INTRODUCED 2-25-03
The bill would amend the Michigan Penal Code to prohibit the sale or rental of a restricted video game to an individual under 17 years of age. A violation would be a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to 90 days and a fine of not more than $1,000, or both.
A "restricted video game" would be a video game rated "AO" [adults only] or "M" [mature] by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.
(The Entertainment Software Rating Board describes itself as a "self-regulatory body established . . . by the Interactive Digital Software Association [that] independently applies and enforces rating, advertising guidelines, and online privacy principles adopted by the industry".)
