A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4439 AS INTRODUCED 3-25-03
The bill would extend certain sunset provisions in the Emergency Telephone Service Enabling Act. Currently the act provides for the assessment of an emergency 9-1-1- service charge of 52 cents per month for each commercial mobile radio service (CMRS) connection (that is, a cellular telephone connection). The assessment of the fee is set to expire on January 1, 2004. The bill would extend the sunset until July 1, 2004. In addition, the entire act is set to expire on December 31, 2006. The bill would extend that sunset until June 30, 2007.
