A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4509 AS INTRODUCED 4-1-03
The bill would amend the General Property Tax Act to exempt property owned by a person at least 61 years of age from property taxes levied under the Revised School Code and under the Community College Act of 1966, including taxes levied for operating purposes or debt reduction.
[The exemption would cover, among other things, operating and debt millages levied by local and intermediate school districts; taxes levied for community colleges and libraries operated by school districts; and taxes supporting community colleges under the Community College Act. The bill would not appear to exempt property from the six-mill state education tax levied under the State Education Tax Act.]
