A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4723 AS INTRODUCED 5-22-03

      The Income Tax Act provides a deduction from a taxpayer’s taxable income equal to $600 per child younger than 19 years of age.  This provision is known as the Child Care Act of 1997.  The bill would re-title the “act” as the “Additional Dependent Child Deduction Act”.

      [Note:  Public Act 81 of 1997 originally provided a deduction for $600 per child under 7 and $300 per child 7 through 12 years of age.  Public Act 42 of 2000 amended this section to increase the deduction to $600 per child younger than 19 years of age, beginning in the 1999 tax year.]
