CONTENT


The bill would amend the Michigan Election Law to provide that no statewide presidential primary would be conducted in 2004.


(Currently, the Election Law requires a statewide presidential primary to be held on the fourth Tuesday in February in each presidential election year. Republicans select their delegates to the Republican National Convention in the presidential primary. Democrats, on the other hand, use a caucus system to select delegates.)

FISCAL IMPACT


The cost of the last presidential primary was $6.3 million. The projected cost of a presidential primary for 2004 is approximately $7 million.
