A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled
"Natural resources and environmental protection act,"
(MCL 324.101 to 324.90106) by adding section 30502a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 30502a. For natural river areas that are designated
2 under this part on or after January 1, 2003, the following
3 apply:
4 (a) Two years after the date the designation is made, the
5 counties and townships in which the natural river area is located
6 may review the designation for a period of not more than 90
7 days. If, during this 90-day period, the governing bodies of a
8 majority of the counties and townships within the natural river
9 area pass resolutions to rescind the designation as a natural
10 river area, the commission shall rescind the designation.
11 (b) Beginning 10 years after the beginning of the 90-day
1 review period under subdivision (a) and every subsequent 10 years
2 thereafter, the counties and townships in which the natural river
3 area is located may review the designation of the natural river
4 area. If, within 90 days of each 10-year time period, the
5 governing bodies of a majority of the counties and townships
6 within the natural river area pass resolutions to rescind the
7 designation as a natural river area, the commission shall rescind
8 the designation.
