A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding sections 217o and 217p.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 217o. (1) The secretary of state shall develop under
2 section 811e and issue a state-sponsored thin blue line
3 fund-raising registration plate and a matching state-sponsored
4 thin blue line fund-raising collector plate as provided under
5 section 811g. The secretary of state in conjunction with the
6 thin blue line of Michigan shall design the plates, having the
7 words "thin blue line" inscribed on the plates. The word
8 "Michigan" shall appear on the plates.
9 (2) The owner of a vehicle required to be registered under
10 this act may apply, on a form prescribed by the secretary of
11 state, for a thin blue line registration plate as prescribed in
1 section 811f instead of a standard registration plate.
2 (3) The secretary of state shall transfer the donation money
3 to the state treasurer who shall credit the donation money to the
4 thin blue line fund established under section 217p.
5 Sec. 217p. (1) The thin blue line fund is created within
6 the state treasury.
7 (2) The state treasurer may receive money or other assets
8 from any source for deposit into the fund. The state treasurer
9 shall direct the investment of the fund. The state treasurer
10 shall credit to the fund interest and earnings from fund
11 investments.
12 (3) Money in the fund at the close of the fiscal year shall
13 remain in the fund and shall not lapse to the general fund.
14 (4) The state treasurer shall disburse money in the fund on a
15 quarterly basis to the Thin Blue Line of Michigan, P.O. Box 415,
16 Howell, Michigan 48844-0415 or a successor address.
17 (5) The Thin Blue Line shall expend the money received under
18 this section solely to assist and support the families of injured
19 or deceased officers of law enforcement agencies within the state
20 of Michigan.
