A bill to amend 1980 PA 299, entitled
"Occupational code,"
by amending section 1117 (MCL 339.1117), as amended by 1984 PA
25.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 1117. (1) Except as otherwise provided in this
2 section, barber services shall only be rendered in premises
3 licensed by the department under this article. A barber may
4 render services to a outside
of a barbershop to either or both
5 of the following:
6 (a) A patient in a hospital, nursing home, home for the
7 aged, or similar facility or to a person requiring home care
8 because of age or illness.
9 (b) An individual whose personal circumstances make it
10 impractical for that individual to leave his or her residence to
1 obtain barber services at a barbershop.
2 (2) The department may issue a demonstration permit, valid
3 for not longer than 1 year, to allow demonstrations on premises
4 not in use as a barbershop. The holder of a demonstration permit
5 shall maintain health, safety, and sanitation standards as set
6 forth in rules authorized under this article. The department may
7 issue a demonstrator permit, valid for no longer than 1 week, to
8 a person not licensed in this state to perform barbering services
9 solely for the purposes of demonstration, provided that the
10 demonstrator is duly authorized to perform barbering services
11 under the laws of another state, jurisdiction, or country.
