                                                                                 A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled                                             

                                                                                

    "Michigan election law,"                                                    

                                                                                

    by amending section 482 (MCL 168.482), as amended by 1998                   

                                                                                

    PA 142.                                                                     

                                                                                

                THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:                      

                                                                                

1       Sec. 482.  (1)  Each  Except as otherwise provided in this                  

                                                                                

2   subsection, each petition sheet under this section shall be 8-1/2           

                                                                                

3   inches by 14 inches in size,  .  shall be in horizontal format,             

                                                                                

4   and shall contain no fewer than 7 signature lines.  An 8-1/2                

                                                                                

5   inches by 11 inches petition sheet may be used if it otherwise              

                                                                                

6   complies with this section and if both of the following                     

                                                                                

7   conditions are met:                                                         

                                                                                

8       (a) The full text of the proposal is able to be printed on 1                

                                                                                

9   or both sides of an 8-1/2 inches by 11 inches petition sheet.               

                                                                                

10      (b) Each petition sheet that is submitted is 8-1/2 inches by                

                                                                                


                                                                                

1   11 inches in size.                                                          

                                                                                

2       (2) If the  measure  proposal to be submitted  proposes  is a               

                                                                                

3   constitutional amendment, initiation of legislation, or                     

                                                                                

4   referendum of legislation, the heading of each part of the                  

                                                                                

5   petition shall be prepared in the following form and printed in             

                                                                                

6   capital letters in 14-point boldfaced type:

8                     AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION                             

                                                                                

9                                   OR                                          

                                                                                

10                      INITIATION OF LEGISLATION

12                      REFERENDUM OF LEGISLATION                               

                                                                                

13                   PROPOSED BY INITIATIVE PETITION                            

                                                                                

14      (3) The full text of the  amendment so proposed  proposal                   

                                                                                

15  shall follow and be printed in 8-point type.  If the proposal               

                                                                                

16  would alter or abrogate an existing provision of the                        

                                                                                

17  constitution, the petition shall so state and the provisions to             

                                                                                

18  be altered or abrogated shall be inserted, preceded by the                  

                                                                                

19  words:                                                                      

                                                                                

20      "Provisions of existing constitution altered or abrogated by                

                                                                                

21  the proposal if adopted."                                                   

                                                                                

22      (4) The following statement shall appear beneath the petition               

                                                                                

23  heading:                                                                    

                                                                                

24      "We, the undersigned qualified and registered electors,                     

                                                                                

25  residents in the                                                            

                                                                                

26  city                                                                        

                                                                                

27  township (strike 1) of ..........  in the county of ..........,             


                                                                                

1   state of Michigan, respectively petition for (amendment to                  

                                                                                

2   constitution) (initiation of legislation) (referendum of                    

                                                                                

3   legislation) (other appropriate description)."                              

                                                                                

4       (5) The following warning shall be printed in 12-point type                 

                                                                                

5   immediately above the place for signatures, on each part of the

7                                WARNING                                        

                                                                                

8                                                                                A person who knowingly signs this petition more than once,                        

                                                                                

9   signs a name other than his or her own, signs when not a                    

                                                                                

10  qualified and registered elector, or sets opposite his or her               

                                                                                

11  signature on a petition, a date other than the actual date the              

                                                                                

12  signature was affixed, is violating the provisions of the                   

                                                                                

13  Michigan election law.                                                      

                                                                                

14      (6) The remainder of the petition form shall be as provided                 

                                                                                

15  following the warning to electors signing the petition in section           

                                                                                

16  544c(1).  In addition, the petition shall comply with the                   

                                                                                

17  requirements of section 544c(2).
