A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
by amending section 955 (MCL 168.955).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 955. (1)
The Except as provided in subsection (2),
2 the petitions shall be signed by registered and qualified
3 electors equal to not less than 25% of the number of votes cast
4 for candidates for the
office of governor at the last preceding
5 most recent general election in the electoral district of the
6 officer sought to be recalled. Upon written demand, the county
7 clerk, within 5 days, shall certify the minimum number of
8 signatures required for the recall of an officer in the
9 governmental unit in which recall is sought.
10 (2) For the recall of an elected officer of a local
11 governmental unit, the petitions shall be signed by registered
1 and qualified electors of each precinct of the electoral district
2 of the officer sought to be recalled equal to not less than 25%
3 of the number of votes cast for candidates for the office of
4 governor at the most recent general election in those precincts.
5 Upon written demand, the county clerk, within 5 days, shall
6 certify the minimum number of signatures required for the recall
7 of an officer in the governmental unit in which recall is sought.
