A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled
"Revised judicature act of 1961,"
by amending section 8142 (MCL 600.8142).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 8142. (1)
The Except as provided in subsection (2),
2 the seventy-seventh district consists of the counties of Mecosta
3 and Osceola, is a district of the first class, and has 1 judge.
4 (2) Subject to section 8175, effective January 1, 2005, the
5 seventy-seventh district consists of the counties of Mecosta and
6 Osceola, is a district of the first class, and is divided into
7 the following election divisions:
8 (a) The first division consists of the county of Mecosta and
9 has 1 judge.
10 (b) The second division consists of the county of Osceola and
11 has 1 judge.
1 Enacting section 1. If the new judgeship in the
2 seventy-seventh district authorized by this amendatory act is
3 approved as provided by law, the election for that judgeship
4 shall take place in the election division that is not the county
5 of residence of the incumbent judge of the seventy-seventh
6 district as of the one hundred thirty-fourth day preceding the
7 date of the primary election for that new judgeship.
