A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
by amending section 642a (MCL 168.642a), as added by 2003 PA
302.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 642a. (1) After December 31, 2004, a city council that
2 adopted a resolution so that its regular election is held on the
3 May regular election date may change its regular election to the
4 odd year general election by adopting a resolution in compliance
5 with section 642. If a city council adopts the resolution in
6 compliance with section 642 to hold its regular election at the
7 odd year general election, after December 31 of the year in which
8 the resolution is adopted, the city's regular election is at the
9 odd year general election.
10 (2) After December 31, 2004, a city council that adopted a
1 resolution so that its regular election primary is held at the
2 September primary election may change its regular election
3 primary to the odd year primary election by adopting a resolution
4 in compliance with section 642. If a city council adopts the
5 resolution in compliance with section 642 to hold its regular
6 election primary on the odd year primary election date, after
7 December 31 of the year in which the resolution is adopted, the
8 city's regular election primary is on the odd year primary
9 election date.
10 (3) After December 31, 2004, a school district's school board
11 that adopted a resolution so that its regular election is held on
12 a date other than at the odd year general election may change its
13 regular election to the odd year general election by adopting a
14 resolution in compliance with section 642. If a school board
15 adopts the resolution in compliance with section 642 to hold its
16 regular election at the odd year general election, after
17 December 31 of the year in which the resolution is adopted, the
18 school board's school district shall hold its regular election at
19 the odd year general election.
20 (4) After December 31, 2004, a village council that adopted a
21 resolution so that its regular election is held on the September
22 primary election date may change its regular election to the
23 November regular election date by adopting a resolution in
24 compliance with section 642. If a village council adopts the
25 resolution in compliance with section 642 to hold its regular
26 election at the November regular election date, after December 31
27 of the year in which the resolution is adopted, the village's
1 regular election is at the November regular election date.

section takes effect September 1, 2004.
