A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
by amending section 686 (MCL 168.686), as amended by 1999 PA
216.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 686. Within 24 hours after the conclusion of the state
2 convention prior to
any before a general election, the state
3 central committee of each political party shall canvass the
4 proceedings of the convention and determine the nominees of the
5 convention. Not more than 1 business day after the state
6 convention, the chairperson and secretary of the state central
7 committee shall forward to
the board of election commissioners
8 of each county, in
care of the county clerk at the county seat,
9 and to the secretary of state, a typewritten or printed
list of
10 the names and residence, including the street address if known,
1 of all candidates nominated at the state convention. In each
2 presidential election year, the state central committee of each
3 political party shall, at
the same time, forward to the board of
4 election commissioners
of each county and not more than
1
5 business day after the state convention or the national
6 convention of that party, whichever is later, forward to the
7 secretary of state the typewritten or printed names of the
8 candidates of such that
party at the forthcoming election for
9 the offices of president of the United States and vice-president
10 of the United States
certified to by the chairman chairperson
11 and secretary of the committees. A party is not required to
12 certify nominations made at an official primary election. The
13 secretary of state shall forward a copy of a list received under
14 this section to the board of election commissioners of each
15 county, in care of the county clerk at the county seat.
