A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled
"Revised judicature act of 1961,"
by amending section 8395 (MCL 600.8395).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 8395. (1) A city, village, or township may establish a
2 parking violations bureau to accept civil infraction admissions
3 in parking violation cases and to collect and retain civil fines
4 and costs as prescribed by ordinance. Beginning August 1, 1979,
5 a parking violations bureau may also accept pleas of guilty in
6 parking violation cases if the violation occurred before
7 August 1, 1979, and may collect and retain fines and costs as
8 prescribed by ordinance at the time the violation occurred.
9 The Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2),
the expense
10 of operating parking violations bureaus shall be borne by the
11 city, village, or township and the personnel of the bureau shall
1 be city, village, or township employees.
2 (2) A city, village, or township may designate a downtown
3 development authority located in that city, village, or township
4 to operate a parking violations bureau under this section. The
5 expenses of operating and the personnel of the parking violations
6 bureau shall be determined by the city, village, or township.
7 (3) As used in this section, "downtown development authority"
8 means an authority as defined under section 1 of 1975 PA 197, MCL
9 125.1651.
