House Resolution No. 101.
A resolution to encourage President Jimmy Carter and Habitat for Humanity, International, to select Michigan as the site for the 2005 Jimmy Carter Habitat for Humanity Work Project.
Whereas, The Jimmy Carter Work Project is a well-respected program that meets the immediate needs of disadvantaged individuals and families through the construction of affordable, quality housing. Planning for this project for the 2005 year indicates that as many as 250 to 300 homes will be built; and
Whereas, Habitat for Humanity Michigan and its numerous local Michigan affiliates, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, and the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan are committed to the 2005 Jimmy Carter Work Project. These groups, as well as many other private and public organizations, are working to secure the resources and support that will make this project successful; and
Whereas, Michigan strongly supports the concept of public–private partnerships to address the housing needs of our people. Habitat for Humanity efforts in our state have reflected this support, as does the fact that every county in the state will soon have a Habitat affiliate. Clearly, this sense of commitment can make the 2005 Jimmy Carter Work Project among the most successful housing ventures anywhere in the country; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we encourage President Jimmy Carter and Habitat for Humanity, International, to select Michigan as the site for the 2005 Jimmy Carter Habitat for Humanity Work Project; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to President Jimmy Carter and the Carter Center.
