            House Resolution No. 192.

            A resolution to recognizing Saturday, February 7, 2004, as National Black HIV/AIDS Information and Awareness Day.

            Whereas, The Black community in the state of Michigan has been disproportionately affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic; and

            Whereas, Members of the Black community represent 14 percent of Michigan’s population, yet make up 58 percent of HIV/AIDS cases; and

            Whereas, The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) estimates that as many as one out of 100 black males and one out of 300 black females may be HIV infected; and

            Whereas, Black HIV/AIDS Awareness and Information Day is intended to mobilize efforts in the African American community to educated, tested, and get involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in their community; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body recognize Saturday, February 7, 2004, as National Black HIV/AIDS Information and Awareness Day; and be it further

            Resolved, That a copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Lansing Area AIDS Network (LAAN) and the African American Task Force (AATF) as a token of our respect for the work they have contributed.
