A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4803 AS INTRODUCED 5-17-05
The bill would amend the Revised School Code to require that public school begin after Labor Day. Under the bill, "Labor Day" is defined to mean the first Monday in September.
The bill would require that the board of a school district or a public school academy (customarily called a charter school) ensure that the school year does not begin before Labor Day. In the event of a collectively bargained agreement was not in compliance with this legislation, this requirement would not apply until after the agreement expired.
