A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5169 AS INTRODUCED 9-13-05

The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to expand the circumstances under which an individual with a restrict driver license can drive.  It would add driving to and from a church, synagogue, mosque, or other house of religious worship.

Currently, a driver with a restricted license can drive in the course of employment, and to and from: his or her residence and work location; an alcohol or drug treatment program ordered by the court; the court probation department; a court-ordered community service program; an educational institution where the driver is enrolled as a student; and a place of regularly occurring medical treatment for a serious condition of the driver or a member of the driver's household or immediate family.
