A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5418 AS INTRODUCED 11-9-05

Public Act 176 of 2005 (enrolled House Bill 4938) added a new section to the Public Health Code.  The new section requires county medical examiners to notify Michigan's federally designated organ procurement organization (Gift of Life) when the medical examiner determines that a body might be suitable for organ donation.  Public Act 176 also requires a medical examiner to examine the body of a known organ donor in a time period that would permit organs and tissues to remain viable for transplant.

House Bill 5418 would amend the health code to name the new section added by Public Act 176 as "Kyle Ray Horning's Law".

MCL 52.209

FISCAL IMPACT:

The bill would have no fiscal impact on state or local units of government.
