CONTENT
The bill would amend the Driver Education and Training Schools Act to require that driver education courses include information concerning the laws pertaining to motorcycle operators and emphasize awareness of the operation of motorcycles on streets, roads, and highways.

Under the Act, the Department of State must approve driver education course performance objectives required to be met for an otherwise qualified individual to obtain a Level 1 graduated license or a Level 2 graduated license under the Michigan Vehicle Code.

Under the Code, a person who is at least 14 years and nine months old may be issued a Level 1 graduated licensing status to operate a motor vehicle if he or she has satisfied certain conditions. A Level 2 license is issued to a person who has held a Level 1 license for at least six months and has fulfilled additional requirements. A person must complete Segment 1 of a drivers education course to receive a Level 1 graduated license and a Segment 2 course to receive a Level 2 graduated license.

Under the bill, Segment 1 would have to include information concerning the laws pertaining to motorcycle operators and emphasize awareness of the operation of motorcycles on the streets, roads, and highways of the State.
