CONTENT
The bill would amend the Revised School Code to allow the State Board of Education to nullify a teacher's grade level certification or endorsement upon request only if the school district, intermediate school district (ISD), or public school academy (PSA) in which the teacher worked did not object, and if the certification or endorsement were not in a critical shortage area.
Under the Code, the State Board of Education may, at a teacher's request, nullify one or more endorsements or a grade level certification included on the teacher's teaching certificate if the grade level certification has not been used for 10 years or more.
Under the bill, the State Board could nullify the endorsement or certification only if the following additional requirements were met:
-- The certification or endorsement had not been used for 10 years or more.
-- The State Board had notified the school district, ISD, or PSA in which the teacher was employed at the time of the request that the teacher had requested the nullification, and the district, ISD, or PSA did not object to the request within 30 days after being notified.
-- The grade level certification or endorsement was not in a critical shortage area, as defined by the Department of Education.
