The bill would amend Public Act 33 of 1951, which provides for police and fire protection for townships, incorporated villages, and qualified cities, to allow the governing bodies of participating local units to set the compensation for members of a joint administrative board to attend meetings.
Under the Act, the governing bodies of two or more contiguous townships, villages, or qualified cities, acting jointly, may create a joint police administrative board, fire administrative board, or police and fire administrative board. A joint administrative board must consist of two members from each participating local unit. The board may compensate a board member at a maximum rate of $30 for each meeting the member attends, which may not exceed 52 per year. Under the bill, a board member could be compensated at a rate established by the participating governing bodies.

FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would have an indeterminate impact on local units, depending on whether compensation rates were changed. To the extent that compensation rates increased in a local unit as a result of the bill, the bill would increase local unit expenses.
The bill would have no fiscal impact on State government.
