STATE BUILDING AUTHORITY RESOLUTION S.C.R. 63: FLOOR ANALYSIS

Senate Concurrent Resolution 63 (as reported without amendment)
Sponsor: Senator Shirley Johnson
Committee: Appropriations

CONTENT

The Department of Management and Budget and Washtenaw Community College request legislative approval of Senate Concurrent Resolution 63 to increase the cost of the Technical and Industrial Building Renovations project by $3,500,000 from $7,185,000 to $10,685,000 and change the scope of the project. The project was initially authorized in Public Act 297 of 2005 with an estimated total project cost of $7,185,000 (Washtenaw Community College share $4,185,000, State Building Authority share $2,999,800, and General Fund/General Purpose $200). The increase will be paid for entirely from College resources with State financing remaining at $3,000,000. The cost increase is due to program changes in the scope of the project that were identified during the design phase. The changes include relocation of CAD and mechanical drafting programs; space for new programs, including physical therapy, interior design, and video production; expansion and relocation of computer labs; addition of a demonstration kitchen for the culinary arts program; and renovations to mechanical systems that are more extensive than originally planned. FISCAL IMPACT

The resolution would not increase the State share of funding for this project.
