HOUSE SUBSTITUTE FOR SENATE SUBSTITUTE FOR
HOUSE BILL NO. 5440
A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled
"The social welfare act,"
(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 57p.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 57p. (1) If an applicant for family independence
assistance who resided in this state for less than 1 year asserts
that he or she did not receive cash assistance or other medical
assistance from the state or states he or she resided in
previously, the department shall do both of the following:
(a) Determine the state or states of residence for the
applicant in the year immediately preceding the date of application
for family independence assistance.
(b) Determine if the applicant received any type of cash
assistance or medical assistance benefits from the state or states
in which he or she resided.
(2) If the department determines that an individual received
assistance in a state other than Michigan, the department shall
determine the amount of time that the applicant received assistance
in that state. The amount of time the applicant received assistance
in a state other than Michigan, as determined by the department,
shall be counted in the applicant's 48-month lifetime cumulative
total amount of months to receive family independence assistance
under this act.
