SUBSTITUTE FOR

HOUSE BILL NO. 4160

(As amended June 29, 2006)

     A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled

"Revised judicature act of 1961,"

by amending section 8401 (MCL 600.8401), as amended by 1999 PA 27.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

     Sec. 8401. A small claims division is created in each district

as a division of the district court. A judge of the district court

shall sit as judge of the small claims division. The jurisdiction

of the small claims division shall be confined to cases for the

recovery of money  only when in which the amount claimed does not

exceed  $3,000.00 [$6,000.00].

[Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect May 1, 2007.]
