SUBSTITUTE FOR

SENATE BILL NO. 518

     A bill to amend 1895 PA 3, entitled

"The general law village act,"

(MCL 61.1 to 74.25) by adding section 5a to chapter II.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

CHAPTER II

     Sec. 5a. Notwithstanding any other provision of this act, the

village may provide by ordinance for staggered terms of its elected

officials, including the providing of terms longer than allowed

under this act in order to facilitate the staggering of terms.

Notwithstanding any other provision of this act, the village may

provide by ordinance for any election provision that is consistent

with the Michigan election law, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.1 to 168.992.
