SB-0567, As Passed Senate, January 31, 2006
SUBSTITUTE FOR
SENATE BILL NO. 567
A bill to amend 1972 PA 106, entitled
"Highway advertising act of 1972,"
(MCL 252.301 to 252.325) by adding section 7a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 7a. From the effective date of the amendatory act that
added this section until December 31, 2008, the department shall
not issue a permit for a sign unless the applicant surrenders a
previously issued permit. A permit issued pursuant to this section
shall comply with this act. Except for any sign removed in
accordance with section 19, if a sign for which a permit has been
issued is removed for any reason, the permit holder may notify the
department of the sign's removal and exchange the permit for the
removed sign for an interim permit with no designated sign
location. If a sign has been removed from an area that is
nonconforming under applicable zoning designations, any sign issued
under an interim permit shall not be in a nonconforming area under
applicable zoning designations. An interim permit shall be
surrendered with an application for a permit for a sign.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect
unless Senate Bill No. 568
of the 93rd Legislature is enacted into law.
