A bill to amend 1989 PA 24, entitled
"The district library establishment act,"
(MCL 397.171 to 397.196) by adding sections 11a and 24a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 11a. (1) A district library that is located in a charter
county and that is adjacent to a county with a population of
750,000 or more shall be governed by an elected board as provided
under section 11.
(2) If a district library subject to subsection (1) is
governed by an appointed board, the district library shall amend
its agreement to provide for an elected board as required by this
section. The election of board members shall occur not later than 2
years from the effective date of the amendatory act that added this
section.
Sec. 24a. (1) If all or part of a participating municipality
elects to become part of a different district library, the
respective district libraries shall amend or draft their agreements
and maps to reflect the new district lines due to the
reconfiguration of the participating municipalities.
(2) The district libraries shall submit a copy of the new
agreements and maps to the state librarian.
