     A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled

 

"The insurance code of 1956,"

 

(MCL 500.100 to 500.8302) by adding section 2015.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 2015. (1) It is an unfair method of competition and an

 

unfair or deceptive act or practice in the business of insurance

 

for an insurer that delivers, issues for delivery, or renews in

 

this state a home, renters, farmowners, commercial, industrial,

 

professional, or business property insurance policy to rate, cancel

 

coverage on, refuse to provide coverage in, or refuse to issue or

 

renew the policy based solely on whether a firearm is kept on the

 

insured property or the property that is to be insured.

 

     (2) This section applies to home, renters, farmowners,


 

commercial, industrial, professional, or business property

 

insurance policies issued or renewed on or after October 1, 2006.
