     A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

 

"The revised school code,"

 

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1164b.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1164b. If a school district or public school academy

 

teaches world history in a high school grade, the board of the

 

school district or board of directors of the public school academy

 

shall ensure that the content of instruction regarding Africa is

 

focused on at least 1 or more of the following kingdoms: Ghana,

 

Mali, Songhay, Benin, Bornu, Nubia, Axum, Meroe, Monomotapa, or

 

medieval Ethiopia. The instruction may also focus on the Swahili

 

coast prior to 1750. This section does not prohibit or limit


 

teaching about other areas of African history.
