HOUSE BILL No. 6378

 

August 30, 2006, Introduced by Reps. Mortimer, Emmons, Moore, Farhat and Nitz and referred to the Committee on Higher Education and Career Preparation.

 

     A bill to amend 1946 (1st Ex Sess) PA 18, entitled

 

"An act to authorize counties to provide a program of adult

education; to provide personnel and equipment; to require approval

of the superintendent of public instruction; and to authorize

county appropriations therefor,"

 

by amending sections 1 and 2 (MCL 388.531 and 388.532).

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1.  The  A county board of  supervisors, through the

 

office of the county commissioner of schools,  commissioners may

 

establish a program of adult education and may employ the necessary

 

teachers and other personnel, and may purchase  such  equipment and

 

instructional supplies as  shall be required  necessary to provide

 

an adequate program for the education of adults residing within the

 


county.  : Provided, That the  However, the county board of

 

supervisors  commissioners of any county proposing to establish

 

such a program shall first furnish evidence concerning local or

 

county needs for adult education satisfactory to the superintendent

 

of public instruction.

 

     Sec. 2.  All persons  A person appointed as  instructors  an

 

instructor or employed in any other capacity in the program

 

established under this act shall have special training for  such  

 

this work. The proposed program and the qualifications of the

 

personnel shall be approved by the superintendent of public

 

instruction upon the basis of  such reports and other  information

 

as he shall require  that he or she requires to be submitted.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act is intended to

 

transfer back to the superintendent of public instruction certain

 

powers, duties, and functions that were transferred to the former

 

department of career development by Executive Reorganization Order

 

No. 1999-7, MCL 388.995.
