A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled
"The social welfare act,"
(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding sections 57q and 57r.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 57q. (1) After termination of family independence program
assistance benefits for noncompliance, failure to meet an
expectation listed in the personal responsibility plan described in
section 57g or the personal work plan described in section 57d, or
reaching the 48-month lifetime cumulative total allowable under
section 57g, the department shall provide information to the
recipient on obtaining food assistance, assistance under the women,
infants, and children program, free and reduced lunches, earned
income tax credit, and any other relevant program or service the
department determines shall assist the family.
(2) If a recipient is terminated from receiving family
independence assistance benefits due to sanctions received under
section 57g or reaching the 48-month cumulative lifetime limit, the
department caseworker may notify any local agencies or service
organizations of family need that can offer services or other
assistance in relation to the recipient's children.
Sec. 57r. The department shall pay $25.00 per month for 12
months to individuals who leave cash assistance programs due to no
longer meeting the financial eligibility criteria based on earned
income, if those individuals continue to meet the federal work
participation requirements.
