House Resolution No. 284.
Whereas, Many of Michigan's citizens have been diagnosed and suffer from inflammatory breast cancer and deserve designated calendar days to raise awareness about the condition, as well as a chance to connect with others inflicted with the disease; and
Whereas, Few women or men who have been diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer are properly educated about the disease. Countless individuals are mis-diagnosed and because of the disease's aggressiveness and the survival rate at about 40%, approximately 5 years, time is of great importance; and
Whereas, Inflammatory breast cancer is a completely different condition from traditional breast cancer due to its extremely different forms of treatment, symptoms, and function within the body. Inflammatory breast cancer is the most aggressive form of breast cancer, as well as the deadliest; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body recognize the week of October 1 through October 7, 2006, as Inflammatory Breast Cancer Awareness Week in the state of Michigan. We encourage all citizens to recognize the many individuals inflicted with this disease and aid in promoting state-wide awareness and education regarding the realities associated with inflammatory breast cancer.
