Overview
The Department of Agriculture promotesMichigan agricultural products; protects the public from disease and unsanitary conditions in food production and handling; regulates product labeling and producer practices for dairy products, animals, and plants; and enforces consumer protection laws regarding food, standard weights/measures, animal health, and plant pests and diseases.
House Substitute HB 4352 (H-1)would appropriate $1.4 million (Gross) less than current year. This reduction reflects continuing reductions in federal support for the Emerald Ash Borer program, as well as reductions in state-restricted Agriculture Equine Industry Development Fund (AEIDF) revenue. AEIDF revenue from the Casino Tax (PA 306 of 2004) will fall upon the opening of two permanentDetroit casinos. The bill would appropriate $1.8 million more General Fund revenue than the current year budget.
The House substitute appropriations$2.5 million (Gross) more than the Executive recommendation, including $766,800 more GF/GP. Major changes from current-year appropriations, as well as House differences from the proposed Executive budget are shown below.
