A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4175 AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE ON 9-17-08
The bill would amend Section 312e of the Michigan Vehicle Code to permit the Secretary of State to waive requirements of a driving skills test for an applicant who pays the applicable license fees for the vehicle group designation or indorsement if the application is made within one year of an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States and does both of the following:
a) Certifies that during the two years immediately preceding discharge the applicant met the conditions for waiver of the driving skills test in the Code of Federal Regulations Commercial Driver's License Standard and was regularly employed in a military occupation specialty that required operation of a commercial motor vehicle, and
b) Presents military documentation verifying that, for the two years immediately preceding discharge, the applicant operated a vehicle representative of the commercial motor vehicle for which he or she seeks a vehicle group designation indorsement.
