A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6113 AS INTRODUCED 5-13-08

Under Section 4 of the Reciprocal Retirement Act a member of a reciprocal retirement system who leaves the employment of one reciprocal unit ("the preceding unit") and enters the employ of another governmental unit ("the succeeding unit") is entitled to a retirement allowance payable by the preceding reciprocal unit's retirement system under certain conditions.  One condition is that the member enter the employ of each succeeding unit within 15 years after the date of leaving the employ of each preceding unit.  House Bill 6113 would amend the act to require a member to enter the employ of each succeeding unit within 20 years after leaving the preceding unit.
