A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled
"The social welfare act,"
(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 14j.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 14j. (1) A food assistance recipient may purchase
prepared food in certain restaurants as determined eligible under
the provisions of subsection (2).
(2) To be eligible to accept food assistance benefits in
payment for prepared food, a restaurant shall meet all of the
following criteria:
(a) The restaurant must have a dining area and shall not be an
exclusively take-out food service.
(b) The restaurant must be licensed by the department of
community health.
(c) The restaurant must sign an agreement with the department
of human services to, at a minimum, offer low-cost meals.
(d) The restaurant must be authorized by the United States
department of agriculture to participate in the food stamp program
as a retailer.
(e) The restaurant must have a point of sale device for use by
recipients with an electronic benefits transfer bridge card.
