A bill to amend 1972 PA 230, entitled
"Stille-DeRossett-Hale single state construction code act,"
(MCL 125.1501 to 125.1531) by adding section 4d.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 4d. (1) Beginning 1 year after the effective date of the
rules promulgated under subsection (2), the owner or operator of a
hotel structure shall install 1 or more carbon monoxide detectors
in each room of that building or structure where individuals reside
or sleep temporarily, as provided in those rules.
(2) The director shall promulgate rules that establish
standards and requirements for the installation of carbon monoxide
detectors in hotel structures where individuals reside or sleep
temporarily.
(3) Beginning the code cycle after the effective date of the
rules promulgated under subsection (2), the director shall include
in the code provisions requiring the installation of carbon
monoxide detectors. Under such circumstances, the provisions in the
code shall supersede this section.
(4) As used in this section, "hotel structure" means any
building or structure designed to allow members of the general
public to temporarily reside or sleep.
