A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1209.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1209. (1) At least once each year, the board of a school
district shall calculate and publish a statement of the percentage
of the school district's general operating budget that is expended
for instruction, as defined by the national center for education
statistics.
(2) The board of a school district shall publish the
information under subsection (1) on the school district's website
and either in the annual educational report that is required for
each of its schools under section 1204a or in another districtwide
publication. The board also shall ensure that this information is
submitted to the department, either as part of submitting those
annual educational reports or in another manner prescribed by the
department.
(3) At least once each year, the department shall compile a
report listing the information under subsection (1) for each school
district, shall make this report available on its website, and
shall forward this report electronically to each member of the
legislature.
