Rep. Proos offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 32.

            A resolution recognizing March 29, 2007, as Knights of Columbus Founder’s Day in the state of Michigan. 

            Whereas, The organization was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney, St. Mary’s parish, New Haven, Connecticut and a small group of Catholic laymen.  The charter for the Knights of Columbus was received from the state of Connecticut on March 29, 1882.  This year marks the 125th anniversary of the reception of their charter; and

            Whereas, In forming the organization Father McGivney hoped to help Catholic men remain steadfast in their faith through mutual encouragement while establishing an elementary system of insurance for families in need; and

            Whereas, The Knights of Columbus, throughout Michigan and the world, will be joining in this commemoration of 125 years of service, faith, and fraternity; and

            Whereas, The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic organization with 1.7 million members donating 64 million hours of volunteer service and 139 million dollars to charitable and benevolent causes annually; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body recognize March 29, 2007, as Knights of Columbus Founder’s Day in the state of Michigan.
