A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4110 AS INTRODUCED 1-22-09

The bill would create a new act to designate an official Scottish tartan of the State of Michigan.  Under the bill, the thread count would be read by Scottish hand weavers and textile designers as follows:

BG18*W2 BG8 W2 T8 DG2 T4 DG24 DR4 DG4*

In the thread count description indicated above, an asterisk denotes 1/2 the total threads at the turning points.

[Note:  According to the website of the St. Andrew's Society of Northwestern Michigan, which is promoting the adoption of this tartan, the colors stand for:

White:  snow, lake ice, summer clouds, and fruit blossoms

Tan:  sand dunes, Petoskey stones, roads for the Model T

Deep red:  maples in autumn, cherries and apples, red-top grass

Deep green:  forest, rolling hills & meadows

Blue/green:  Michigan’s lakes, both inland and Great.
